Fitbit Edge Leak Points to Midrange Tracker With GPS and Week-Long Battery

A new set of leaked images, published by Android Headlines, offers the clearest look yet at the Fitbit Edge, a fitness tracker that appears to be the next step for Google's midrange Charge line.

The device had surfaced in earlier leaks, but the new photos show where it lands in Google's wearables lineup. It sits somewhere between the Pixel Watch and the stripped-back Fitbit Air. The Edge has a small display that can show widgets, yet it is clearly not meant to compete with a full smartwatch on screen size or features.

Rumored specs lean heavily toward fitness. The Edge is said to offer roughly seven days of battery life, which would match what many Fitbit fans expect from a dedicated tracker and beat most smartwatches by a wide margin. It is also expected to include built-in GPS and an altimeter. That would let users record runs, rides and hikes without carrying a phone, and track elevation gain, two things the minimalist Air cannot do.

Software looks to be limited. Reports indicate the Edge will offer only restricted app support, which fits a tracker aimed at people who want workout data and a long-lasting battery rather than a wrist-based phone replacement.

There is still a lot we do not know. Pricing, release timing and the full feature list have not been confirmed, and Google has not commented on the leak. As with any pre-launch images, details could change before an official announcement.

If the leaks prove accurate, the Edge would fill a gap for buyers who find the Pixel Watch too expensive or too power-hungry, but who want more than the bare-bones Air. It would also give Google a clearer three-tier structure in its wearables: a simple band, a sports-focused middle option and a full smartwatch.
